New Incentives to Landlords for Homeless Housing Options
This week’s story in The Denver Post: Metro Denver mayors, homeless advocates offer affordable-rental incentives to landlords, describes steps being taken by Metro Mayors and homeless advocates to provide new housing solutions for the homeless. With Denver’s housing market reaching record highs – for both rental and purchase – addressing the lack of affordable housing in our region is even more important. We must not forget that in the midst of so much development taking place in the Metro area, preserving existing affordable housing options is a key part of the equation for providing equitable housing opportunity for all residents. ULC has preserved over 250 units in 8 years, most of which would have been lost to market, pricing residents out. One example is a 100 unit preservation at Wadsworth Station on the W Line, Villas at Wadsworth.
It is time to get creative about how to house the homeless and low-income population, we commend the Metro Denver Homeless Initiative for working to create new options on how housing vouchers are distributed.
