The Benefits of Using Community Land Trusts with Low Income Housing Tax Credits

The challenges of developing permanently affordable housing are formidable. The cost of land and construction is continually increasing in most urban communities, and demand, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, continues to outpace supply. 

ULC commissioned Alan Gottlieb to write The Benefits of Using Community Land Trusts with Low Income Housing Tax Credits to explore the value of combining these tools to preserve affordability in neighborhoods facing the pressures of identification. 

By examining two of our new development, Walnut Street Lofts and Sheridan Station Apartments, we’ll highlight the community benefits, cost savings, elements of financing the deals, and lessons learned about combining low-income tax credits and CLT ground leases.
