Mayor Michael Hancock and City Officials Tour Westwood
Pocket Park construction at Thrifway is underway! ULC was fortunate to showcase this community project to Mayor Michael Hancock, Councilman Paul Lopez, Paul Washington and key partners at the Denver Office of Economic Development as well as other neighborhod stakeholders on the first stop of the Mayor’s Westwood tour.

With so many important city investments made in Westwood, Mayor Hancock came out to see what kind of impact was being made. The first stop on the tour was ULC’s Thriftway site which will soon be home to a new futsal court, community gardens and recreation space!

Without the support of the City of Denver, Thriftway would still be a dangerous and vacant building, an eyesore in the heart of the Westwood community. After acquiring the property, and demolishing the building in 2014 with support from the Denver Office of Economic Development, ULC is thrilled to be able to activate the site into a recreation space for residents and their families.
We are grateful for our funding partners who are making this park a reality including Denver OED, Healthy Places Westwood and Wells Fargo.

We can’t wait to celebrate the grand opening of the new and improved Thriftway site later this year! Stay tuned for updates, including a long-awaited ribbon cutting celebration with the Westwood community!
