On April 29th, the Denver City Council voted unanimously to lease a city-owned parcel of land located at the corner of 44th and Pearl Street in the Globeville neighborhood to Beloved Community Tiny Home Village. The decision came at the end of a near year and a half extension of Urban Land Conservancy’s (ULC) original lease agreement with the tiny home village. Originally slated to move into Zeppelin Development’s TAXI campus, the plan was rejected by Denver’s Department of Public Works, citing flood plane concerns. The Colorado Village Collaborative, the nonprofit organization governing Beloved Community, was instrumental in submitting the new plan to relocate the village to the Globeville neighborhood Denver. The Beloved Community Village is in the process of moving to their new home, which is expected to occur by the end of May 2019.

Opened in July 2017, Beloved Community Tiny Home Village was created as an innovative approach to house individuals experiencing homelessness. The village consists of 11 sleeping units, a shared bathing facility and a community gathering space. The village resided on ULC’s land at the corner of 38th and Walnut under a temporary six month lease, per the City of Denver’s  guidelines. ULC sold the development rights at 38th and Walnut to Medici Consulting Group, and ULC continues to own the land under a 99 year ground lease as part of our community land trust (CLT) to ensure permanent affordability for future generations. Beloved Community leased the land for $1 per month. The tiny home village is the first of its kind in Colorado, and was extremely successful in its first two years.
