New Legacy Charter School Hosts Cooking Class for Students
March 8, 2016 – The students at New Legacy Charter School were given a special treat last week when their art room was converted into a fully functioning kitchen.
Katrina Brink from Kitchen on the Green, part of the Aurora Recreation Department, spent Wednesday teaching the students all about the preparation and nutritional content of Indian cuisine. The lesson included how to safely chop vegetables, understanding their nutritional benefits and finally diving into the prep work of creating an Indian feast. The meal included citrus basmati rice, chicken curry and a Senegalese tropical juice drink.
“Everyone participated and had a job to do,” said Jenn Stephens, a teacher at New Legacy Charter School. “..from chopping to zesting, sautéing, boiling rice, juicing, setting the table, serving and clean up.”
Only a few days before the cooking class, both JHL and SlaterPaull came to New Legacy Charter School to help set up the kitchen space. To learn more about Kitchen on the Green, click here.
