This July, The Colorado Health Foundation hosted their 2019 Colorado Health Symposium in Keystone, Colorado with a focus on the intersection of health, housing and inequity. The national health conference, “offers a unique chance to interact with cross-sector experts and dedicated professionals who are leading the way in addressing health equity.”

Erin Clark, ULC’s VP of Master Site Development, presented on an interactive panel with our partners from Clinica Tepeyac and Columbia Ventures. The presentation focused on creating stability through equitable transit-oriented development, highlighting the future development at ULC’s Race TOD property in the Elyria Swansea neighborhood.

During the presentation, participants were divided into five groups, given maps and asked to help determine the current assets and gaps present in the Elyria Swansea neighborhood. Each group suggested numerous ideas that would provide direct community benefit to local residents. These included (but are not limited to) childcare, financial institution, farmers market, cohousing, barber shop, community gardens, family housing and community centers.

The five groups then worked together to brainstorm how future phases of development could be built in a way that incorporates beneficial community assets like the ones listed above. The session was incredibly successful, and left our team with informative takeaways to help guide future community engagement sessions as development progresses forward. Thank you again to The Colorado Health Foundation for recognizing the important connection between health and housing, and for hosting this year’s Symposium.
