The Social Enterprise Foundry is home to many nonprofits who are make an incredible impact in the community, providing jobs to local residents and contributing to the hustle and bustle of activity in the Sun Valley neighborhood.

The Social Enterprise Foundry was created in 2014 after ULC acquired the warehouse to preserve affordable commercial space for local nonprofits. Nonprofts now working out of this 45,000 square foot facility collaborate in unique ways to raise the living standards for deserving families in the Denver Metro area. The building may not stand out when one drives by the corner of 9th and Decatur, but the organizations inside are creating a nonprofit community focused on improving lives. Recycling everyday electronics, training young adults valuable workforce skills, bringing technology and home energy efficiency to low-income households. All of these are examples of how the partners within the Foundry are changing the Denver community. Their missions may differ but their vision of Denver’s future is unified.

Yes it seems that the folks within The Social Enterprise Foundry are accomplishing some great stuff.. But what is it like to work with the Foundry team? Devin Caveza with Denver Shared Spaces tells us about a typical day at the Social Enterprise Foundry.

6:25 a.m. – Denver Shared Spaces – “Rushing to get my jacket on! Early 7:30 meeting with the property’s management to discuss changes to our exterior signage. Will be a great opportunity to develop our brand and work with some local artistic talent.”

7:30 a.m. – Mile High Youth Corps – “Our Corps members do a “Stretch & Safety” circle. We stretch and get warmed up for the day, and discuss any safety or other team issues for the upcoming projects.”

11:15 a.m. – Energy Resource Center – “Just answering emails and calls. Sometimes it can be hard to keep track of all the progress were making out in the field. We have a lot of crew members bringing energy efficiency to families in the neighborhood!”

12:00 p.m. – Blue Star Recyclers – “Just wrapped up a busy day with our recycling technicians. Saving the earth and teaching vital professionalism skills to young adults makes for a rewarding day of work. Next stop – Lunch!”

12:45 p.m. – Denver Shared Spaces – “Wrapping up a productive tenant partner meeting with the rest of the building. We came to a consensus on some exciting new branding projects, as well as, plan our November Harvest Party.”

2:00 p.m. – PC’s for People – “We’re having a busy day today; serving lots of families in need of a modern computer. Every Tuesday and Thursday we open our doors, between 1 p.m. to 7p.m., to the public to sell affordable Windows computers to families that meet certain minimum income requirements.” See the recent story on Entravision here! It’s 7:00 p.m. and the day is finally complete. Time for the Foundry team to rest up and do it all again tomorrow!
