Owned by NEWSED Community Development Corporation, 1029 Santa Fe Drive houses 5 non-profit organizations working in the Denver Metro community. The center was brought together through NEWSED’s offer of affordable rent and its desire to only house non-profit organizations. Derived from NEWSED’s mission, the center has a focus on serving low income people through education, advocacy, and economic and social justice, in particular the local Latino community. Although still working through details on copiers, printers, and office systems such as wireless internet, the group shares the conference room facilities in the building and collaborates on social and economic issues whenever possible.
1029 Santa Fe tenants include:
- Colorado Progressive Coalition
- Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR)
- Denver Coalition for Integration (DCI)
- Circle for Latina Leadership
- Otii Law Firm
The Santa Fe Nonprofit Offices & Warehouse also functions as a ULC investment with the goal of preservation and redevelopment. In partnership with NEWSED, a local community development corporation, ULC provided a $300,000 PRI loan at a 3% interest rate for two years, for this 31,000 square foot commercial/warehouse building at 1029 Santa Fe. In order to preserve the building for long-term community benefit, ULC has the right to purchase the land at the end of loan term. Currently the building is serving several nonprofit organizations with below market rents. The building was slated for mixed use redevelopment, but then the market changed. There are 15 full and part time employees working in the facility.
