Position Purpose:  The Communications Intern will assist ULC in creating published content to be shared via our newsletter, website and social media accounts. Our intention with this position is to increase outreach to better share the work of ULC and community partners working to make Denver a more equitable city for all.


ULC Project Description:  The primary objective for the position is content creation, in the form of articles written for our website. We expect the role to produce between three to four stories each month, averaging 750 – 1,500 words per article. The intern is expected to schedule interviews (ULC will assist in making connections) and take photos to accompany each piece. Some articles will require attendance of community events and meetings, which occasionally take place after standard working hours.  While ULC anticipates a workload of 12 – 15 hours per month, please prepare for an additional 7-10 additional hours during the first month dedicated to training. During this time we will provide a framework to explain ULC’s history, mission and expectations for the position. This is a paid internship; hourly wage commiserate with experience. This internship is primarily an offsite, remote position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Story Telling – write articles highlighting ULC, our partners and local community members
  • Attending community events – these will range from neighborhood meetings to panels and presentations
  • Photography – articles must be accompanied by two to three high-quality photographs

Experience/Skills Required:

  • Pursuing a degree in a related field (communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, etc.)
  • Holds an interest in equitable community development through affordable real estate
  • Excellent oral, written and communication skills
  • Ability to work within an allocated timeframe and strict deadline
  • Proficiency with WordPress is a plus
  • Experience in community-based work, outreach and advocacy, or social impact sectors preferred, but not required


  • As this role is remote & offsite, access to a computer with the Microsoft Office Suite and Gmail is a necessity
  • Access to a car or other convenient mode of transportation is required (travel is limited to the Metro Denver area)
  • The individual will need a camera (phones are acceptable) to include photos in each article
