Americorps NCCC Southwest Region Celebrates Earth and Water Graduates!
Last Thursday, the Americorps NCCC Southwest Region celebrated the graduation of their Class 24’s Earth and Water Units. Americorps is a new tenant of ULC at our Oxford Vista property in Southeast Aurora, which serves as the headquarters for their Southwest branch. The ULC staff members who attended the graduation were in awe of not only the number of graduates, but the incredible statistics provided in regards to the graduates’ community service during their tenure with the organization.
Americorps celebrated 232 graduates, who together completed over 237,000 hours of service (this is equivalent to over 39,000 days, based on a 12 hour working day!) Their efforts were concentrated to 66 communities across both the Southwestern United States and Puerto Rico. The graduates assisted Texan communities recover from Hurricane Harvey, removing over 446,000 pounds of home debris. They also supported over 1,400 U.S. veterans, and provided $3.9 million in tax savings to low income Americans.
All in all, each graduate directly impacted hundreds of lives during their time with Americorps. We are proud to provide a home base for such an incredible organization, and look forward to seeing what your future students continue to accomplish in the years to come!
