Urban Land Conservancy joined RTD this morning to break ground on the Sheridan parking garage adjacent to the Jody Apartments at the edge of Denver at 10th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.
This five-story, 800-space parking garage brings RTD one step closer to opening the West Line of FasTracks, scheduled to begin operation in April 2013.
Debra Bustos, Director of Real Estate at ULC, spoke at the event about the Sheridan Station catalytic project and the implementation of a 20-minute transit oriented development neighborhood. This project will bring transformational change to the West Corridor, giving people the opportunity to access all the places they would like (or need) to go within a 20 minute walk of the station.
“Sheridan Station will be so much more than a rail station, the redevelopment of this station area will be catalytic to a much larger community,” said Bustos.
Other speakers at the event included Mayor Michael Hancock, RTD General Manager Phil Washington, RTD Board Member Angie Malpiede and Swinerton Builders Vice President Scott Conrad. Swinerton is building the structure which will include sustainable features such as low water-use landscaping, storm water quality, bicycle parking and plug-ins for hybrid electric vehicles.
The construction of this project will further power the economic engine of the West Rail Line, and an estimated 200 people will be employed to construct this parking garage.
ULC is thrilled to be part of the collaborative effort in the redevelopment of the Sheridan Station area, furthering Denver’s ability to be a national model for equitable transit oriented development.
