As you may have heard, on Nov. 22, HUD Region VIII Administrator Rick Garcia announced the Denver region has been awarded $4.5 million through the Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant program. Senator Michael Bennet, Congressman Ed Perlmutter, Congresswoman Diana DeGette, and Governor John Hickenlooper also attended the announcement in Olde Town Arvada. As DRCOG Board Chair Jim Taylor and I noted in our remarks, the success of the region’s grant application is due to the support and collaborative efforts of all of you – the 86 public, private and non-profit partners who came together to the develop a successful application and collectively pledged more than $8 million in matching resources.
Over the next several weeks, we will be negotiating with HUD regarding the final workplan and budget. In early 2012 we will begin convening the various committees and working groups that will focus on leveraging our region’s $6.75 billion investment in FasTracks through collaborative planning at the regional, corridor, and site level. Look for more information about this effort soon. We are looking forward to continued collaboration on the work ahead – work that will make life better for people of all ages, incomes and abilities.
In the meantime, you may view additional photos of the award announcement, and news coverage of the announcement on our Facebook page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jill Locantore at 303-480-6752 or jlocantore@drcog.org.
Thanks again for helping to bring about this exciting opportunity for the Denver region,
